Exercise 1 - Character Profile

Name: Jacob Guinnup

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Family: Jaclyn Houser (fiance), Jazilyn Marley Guinnup (Daughter 3 years old),Jarrah Magnolia Guinnup (Daughte 1 year old)

Work: I work at www.IN.gov as a intern in the Creative Services department. I'm a web developer and I manage all of the front end content on www.in.gov pages in a content management system or directly off of the server. I've been there since April 2008 (and still love it) and I've learn how to also create back-end configuration files used with online forms that submits emails to a a designated target. I've learned how to create a build several forms (which the public uses) and know how to build the back end files and commit them using UNIX commands. I've built several of the large forms on the department of labor's web site (their main contact form for example). Great job; I could go on and on about it.

Dreams: graduate IUPUI with a Bachelor of Science in New Media and Science with the Computer Science Certificate. I already have a Music Minor from IUPUI.

Interesting: Have played the drums for 18 years. Majored in music and art in high school. I have a music minor from IUPUI. My father is also a drummer (for 35+ years) and I once played in a band with him for a few years. I played congas and percussion; dad played drum set. The times were priceless.

I have been playing drums and writing music with Steve Smith (Indianapolis) for almost four years. We've played countless live shows, performed several cover songs, improvised and created a lot of material that later turned into original songs. Steve Smith is a singer/songwriter/one-man-solo that teams up with me to do our duo act which we call, "Steve Smith and Conga J". So, there's your interesting fact; my stage name is Conga J. A cool tidbit about Steve and I; we share the same birthday of December 24th (i was born in 1981 and Steve in 1973) and we also opened up for Days of the New and Seven Mary Three on March 13, 2009 at the Downtown Claddagh Irish Pub in Indianapolis. Great show! We recorded it...it's even online available to listen to for free.

I also play in an improv band with Steve Smith, Steve Darbro, and select friends (we've included many in the mix) called Fernhead; which we regularly played at Locals Only Art and Music Pub on Tuesday nights for a consecutive year.

Throughout the last two years; Steve has recorded all of our performances on audio; and I've separated the recordings into individual songs, labeled them, and uploaded them on www.archive.org so that anyone can listen or download our live performances for free. This also makes it easy for band members to share the music with each other.

Character Profile:

Jacob “CongaJ” Guinnup is a 27-year-old male who lives in the rain forest with his fiancĂ© and two daughters.  He spends his days working for the government in the creative services department, but wait, he lives in the rainforest?  Yes, his high intelligence lead him to create a super fast and power communication system to interact with the outside world, not rain forest people or creatures, out of trees, vines, bones, and water.  Amazing right.  After graduating from school with a degree in music, Conga J toured the world with his outlandish hand made drums.  He became so popular and famous that he couldn’t take it anymore, so he hid from the real world and moved him and his family to the rain forest.  Through the communication system that he built he decided to go back to school for New Media at IUPUI.  He had saved a great amount of money when he was famous, so he is able to fly on a private jet back and forth to school from the rain forest.

While in the rain forest, Jacob met some new neighbors living in the trees around him.  He met fellow jungle musicians Steve “Eye of the Tiger” Smith, and Steve “Double Punch” Darbro.  The three formed a jungle music super group called Fernhead and play for the rain forest community.  They made all of their instruments from natural resources and made giant drums that not only they could play, but also have the monkeys bounce off of to add to their musical creation.  The End.
